THANKING VETERANS

The Salinas Annual Veterans Day Parade brought many local veterans as well as high school groups, such as Soledad High School NJROTC and Gonzales Marching Band, to honor veterans Nov. 11 at Downtown Main Street.

The City of Gonzales' Alta Street is the site of the second Measure X project in Monterey County and the second roadway project in South County, breaking ground Nov. 1.

South County resident named Veteran of the Year

King City resident Charles DeSchepper was recently named Veteran of the Year for 2017 by the Monterey County Military and Veterans Affairs Office Advisory Commission, which honored him last Saturday at the annual ceremonial dinner in Monterey.

New fire engineer approved

Gonzales Fire Department may soon have a new fire engineer. At the Oct. 16 city council meeting, the council was asked to approve the position of an additional fire engineer beginning Jan. 1.

Gonzales, ZeroCity become partners

Alternative energy sources may be on the way for the City of Gonzales as the city council approved an agreement with ZeroCity LLC for development of renewable power production in Gonzales.

Salinas Valley Recycles and Tri Cities Disposal reported that the City of Gonzales is under the state average of eight pounds of trash per person daily with a residential diversion rate of 42 percent.

Monterey County Pops returns for free veterans concert

Monterey County Pops! orchestra’s ā€œSalute to Veteransā€ concerts, performed in conjunction with the Veterans Day weekend, have been so well-received by hundreds of South County residents for the past four years that the Pops are bringing it back for another free concert at the King City High School Auditorium.

District gov visits area Rotary Clubs
