GONZALES — Construction, tools, insects and birds were part of the Gonzales Library’s Summer Reading Performance by the Traveling Lantern Theater Company.
Actors Arturo Dirzo and Shelby Rinehart took to the Gonzales Library’s floor to tell young children about what it takes to build a house in a very creative way. Dirzo and Rinehart portrayed two insects who had just got married and needed to figure out where they were going to stay.
The couple choose to build their own home but quickly learn that building a home isn’t easy. They enlisted the help of a bird who talked about building plans and a contractor insect who talked about building the house frame.
The Gonzales Library’s Summer Reading Program is an event that runs from June 12 to July 29 and has taken on the theme of “Reading by Design.”
The program encourages youth and adults to read for 30 minutes, or listen to a story, before visiting the library to collect a prize when the child has read for three hours. When all the houses on a chart are colored, or the participant has read for 12 hours, he or she can collect a free book at the library.
