GONZALES — Team members from the Gonzales High School track and field team and their parents celebrated the season with a banquet and awards night last Wednesday at the school cafeteria.

The June 30 event began with a delicious taco meal with all the fixings from Carlitos Steakhouse in Gonzales, followed by a recognition of the faithful track and field parents by head coach Margie Daniels.

Parents were presented with certificates and flowers for their dedication and support of the track and field program.

“I just want to thank everyone for attending tonight’s banquet,” Daniels said. “Thank you to all the parents for their unconditional love and support of all the student-athletes.”

Track and field athletes were introduced and received certificates of participation along with special certificates for students with high GPAs.

“I commend each of you on a job well-done during this unique season,” Daniels said. “You demonstrated perseverance, athleticism and sportsmanship. True Spartans, through and through. Proud of many of you that were able to balance school, sports, a job and a personal life all the while with a positive attitude and unyielding determination. You have proven what it means to be a student-athlete.”

The evening concluded with the presentation of special team awards, beautiful senior photo canvases that Daniels created for each senior who graduated, and the always memorable end-of-year slide show.
