SALINAS VALLEY — The high school track-and-field season came to a close Saturday for local athletes at the Central Coast Section semifinals at Gilroy High School.

Athletes competed in six track events and four field events, with all four South Monterey County schools competing.

Mariana Alcaraz of King City was the highest local placer with a 17th-place finish in the discus with a best of 97’7. The Lady Mustangs 4×100 relay team placed 31st overall with a time of 52.6. Members of the relay team were: Irie Velasquez, Jacqueline Orellana, Rose Ruelas and Zamantha Fletes.

The King City girls 4×400 relay team finished 24th overall with a time of 4:17.45. Running on the team were: Ruelas, Fletes, Eva Vicencio and Jolea Celeya.

Ruelas placed 31st in the 200 meters in a time of 28.51 and a 23rd finish in the 400 with a time of 1:02.28. Alexa Flores placed 24th in the 3200 meters with a best of 12:27.

Giselle Zepeda of Soledad placed 21st in the 400 with a time of 1:01.71, and Greenfield’s Alondra Lopez competed in the girls’ high jump.

Competing for the South Monterey County boys were Alen Valdez of Gonzales with a time of 17.59 in the 110 hurdles — good for 33rd place — and Angel Romero of King City, who placed 22nd in the shot put with a best of 45’04.
