SALINAS VALLEY — The end of the regular track and field season will conclude this Friday for South Monterey County high schools at the Pacific Coast Athletic League Masters Meet at Pacific Grove High School.

The meet will be the qualifying meet for the Central Coast Section (CCS) Semi-Finals that will be contested on Saturday, May 11, at Gilroy High School. The CCS Track and Field Championships will take place Saturday, May 19, at Gilroy.

While many qualifiers were determined at the respective divisional championships, the entries for the Masters Meet will be changing every day this week as athletes will be added to the meet.

Five local athletes were Santa Lucia Divisional champions at last Friday’s division finals at Monte Vista High School.

Giovanni Ochoa of Gonzales won titles in the varsity boys 1600 and 3200, and Latai Matalua of Greenfield won the varsity girls shot put and discus titles.

Gabriel Barragan of Gonzales was the triple jump champion and Alen Valdez of Gonzales won the 110 hurdles. Greenfield’s Jorge Maldonado was the champion of the 300 hurdles.
