GONZALES — Gonzales High School hurdler Alen Valdez and high jumper Robert Gutierrez placed second in their specialties at last Saturday’s season opening track and field meet at the Watsonville Time Trials.

Valdez, a junior, ran the 110 hurdles in a time of 18.76, and Gutierrez, also a junior, jumped a personal record of 5’10 in the high jump.

The Spartans will continue to train this week to prepare for their competition at the 50th Wildcat Relays on March 11 at Watsonville.

Gonzales is a member of the Pacific Coast Athletic League and will commence league meets on Tuesday, March 14, at Pacific Grove High School.
