GONZALES — Central Park received a season festive makeover over the weekend as the Gonzales Youth Council celebrated the annual tree lighting Dec. 8.

Several of the trees throughout the park now have christmas lights, and walkways have been decorated with candy cane awnings and more.

“We are out here for the annual tree lighting,” said Youth Commissioner Cindy Aguilar. “This has been a new tradition that the Gonzales Youth Council has taken on every year.”

The Youth Council prepared activities for local youth to take part in, starting with writing letters to Santa, coloring pages, arts and crafts and the Youth Council Grinch kabob, which consists of a grape, raspberry and a marshmallow.

Santa was also available to take pictures with everyone, and the Gonzales High School jazz band provided music.
