SALINAS — Sun Street Centers recently hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for its new Recovery Center in Salinas.

This marked a significant milestone in Sun Street’s Building for Recovery Campaign and its mission to prevent alcohol and drug addiction by offering education, prevention, treatment and recovery to individuals and families regardless of income level.

The April 4 groundbreaking ceremony symbolized the beginning of construction on a facility that will serve as a beacon of hope to those struggling with addiction.

The Salinas Recovery Center will address unmet and urgent needs to help men, women, teens and families suffering with chronic addiction and mental illness in Salinas and Monterey County. The additional space is necessary to remove accessibility barriers caused by current space limitations, providing intensive, daily outpatient treatment sites, as well as space for recovery groups.

These programs are projected to serve 300 individuals per year at the community center and 40 men and women per year in the sober living transitional housing apartments.

The Center is expected to open in late 2025.

“We are thrilled to take this momentous step forward to addressing the challenges of substance abuse in our community,” said Anna Foglia, CEO of Sun Street Centers. “This groundbreaking is truly the result of a community effort. Lou and Roberta Huntington, Monterey County Behavioral Health, the Harden Foundation, the Monterey Peninsula Foundation, Sally Hughes Church, and many other foundations, businesses, and individuals have contributed to this campaign. It is a testament to the need for services we will provide here.”

Sun Street Centers has 56 years of proven success in the field of addiction treatment and recovery. It has multiple sites in Monterey, San Luis Obispo and San Benito counties that host certified and licensed programs for detoxification, residential and outpatient treatment, dual-diagnosed treatment, and DUI and recovery services, serving more than 10,000 individuals and families each year.
