The Gonzales Spartan boys basketball team will have a chance to secure the Coastal League tonight when they host the Marina Mariners in the Roger Fernando Gym.

Kayla Dixon scored 18 and Jackie Ramirez had a game-high 12 rebounds and added six points as the Gonzales High girls basketball team downed the visiting Santa Catalina Cougars 52-21 last Wednesday night in the Roger Fernando Gym.

In a battle for first place in the Mission Trail Athletic League, the Greenfield Lady Bruin soccer gained half a game on front running Pacific Collegiate as the teams finished in a 1-1 tie in last Thursday’s game in Greenfield.

Gonzales High continued to win games in the Coastal League and remains on top of the standings with a 6-0 record. Gonzales has now won seven straight games.

Local wrestling teams have been keeping busy by attending invitational tournaments and beyond. The Gonzales High School wrestling team competed at Saturday’s Overfelt Classic in San Jose and placed 17th out of 48 teams.
