Spartan wrestlers place 6th at CCS, Ochoa qualifies to State
Senior wrestler Robert Ochoa of Gonzales High School finished with a 5-1 record and qualified for the California Interscholastic Federation State Wrestling Championships after placing third at Saturdayās Central Coast Section Championships that were held at Independence High School in San Jose.
Gonzales wins 12th soccer league title
Winning back-to-back league championship titles helped the Gonzales High Spartans reach a dozen championships in the Mission Trail Athletic League.
Gonzales boys head to playoffs
For the first time since the 2013-2014 basketball season the Gonzales High boys basketball team earned a spot in the Central Coast Section Playoffs. The Spartans finished second in the Coastal League and were 12-10 overall.
Spartans win 20th wrestling title
With eight wrestlers winning individual weight classes the Gonzales High School wrestling team won the schoolās 20th Mission Trail Athletic League Championship on Thursday at Pacific Grove High School.
Spartan hoopsters suffer loss to Mariners
A chance to nail down first place in the Coastal League disappeared for the host Gonzales Spartans after a 70-52 loss to the Marina Mariners last Wednesday night in Gonzales.
Lady Mustangs beat rival Spartans, 53-48
Trailing 14-12 on the road to Gonzales inspired the King City Lady Mustangs to toughen up defensively and keep the Spartans scoreless in the second quarter. Gonzales fell behind at the half, but kept the game close though King City prevailed, 53-48.
Local wrestlers take home medals
Gonzales High School and Soledad High School each had a wrestler place sixth to medal in at the Central Coast Section Girls Championship that took place on Friday and Saturday at Overfelt High School in San Jose.
South County's regular soccer season heats up
With a handful of games remaining in the Mission Trail and Coastal League, South County boys and girls teams are playing hard for a shot at a league title or Central Coast Section Playoff spot.
Gonzales hosts Marina for league lead
The Gonzales Spartan boys basketball team will have a chance to secure the Coastal League tonight when they host the Marina Mariners in the Roger Fernando Gym.
Spartan girls maul Cougars, 52-21
Kayla Dixon scored 18 and Jackie Ramirez had a game-high 12 rebounds and added six points as the Gonzales High girls basketball team downed the visiting Santa Catalina Cougars 52-21 last Wednesday night in the Roger Fernando Gym.
