GONZALES — The Gonzales High Spartan baseball team completed a two-game series with the Trinity Christian Warriors with a 17-5 home victory on Friday. The game was in the bottom of the fifth after the Spartans built the lead to twelve runs.

Pedro Villacana earned the pitching win for the Spartans. Xando Mendez went 3 x 3 at the plate and finished with two runs batted in. Alejandro Madrigal went 2 x 3 with an RBI, Colt Rubbo was 2 x 3, and Gonzalo Villagomez went 3 x 3.

The first game of the series was played on Wednesday May 3rd at Sollecito Park in Monterey. Gonzales trialed 1-0 until the fifth inning as they rallied to score three runs. The Warriors added one run for the final 3-2 score.

“With two runners on in the fifth Alejandro Madrigal hit a ball that got by the left fielder,” said Coach Erik Lopez. “We took the lead at 3-1 and hung on for the win. Xando Mendez started at pitcher and went six innings before we put in Abraham Morga who got the save.”

On Monday May 1st the Spartans defeated the Anzar Hawks 7-1 at home. Manny Vargas pitched the first six innings and received relief help from Abraham Morga. Jesus Mendoza led Gonzales with a 3 x 3 hitting performance and Xando Mendez had a double with two RBI’s.

Gonzales played yesterday in Pebble Beach against the host Robert Louis Stevenson Pirates and concluded the season tomorrow by hosting the Pirates in the season finale.
