GONZALES — The Gonzales High football program ended the season with a awards night and banquet Nov. 29 at the school cafeteria. Players, coaches and their families enjoyed a chicken dinner followed by team awards for the varsity and JV teams.

Junior varsity head coach then introduced his coaching staff of Eddie Ramirez, Martin Castanon, and Dominic Alvarado. Alvarado and his staff then introduced each player and handed out team certificates and high G.P.A (Grade point average) certificates. Special team awards were presented to Aviel Avila, Nick Ortiz, Isaiah Castillo, Jose De Leon, Jose Lopez, Jason Flores, Armando Ayala, and Joel Valdez.

After the JV awards, varsity head coach Arthur Berlanga thanked families for attending and presented his coaching staff of Curt Ceralde, Dante Santoyo, Jose Martinez, and Jimmy Carrillo.

Berlanga then presented team and G.P.A. certificates and presented Block G’s to those players that lettered in football this season. Berlanga thanked parents for opening their homes for team dinners, including the Ruiz, Acosta, Correa, Villasenor, Vargas, Emery, and Mathews families. Team captain pins were presented to Hernan Mojica, Seth Mays, Pablo Villasenor, Giovanni Garcia, Payton Flores, and Raul Morales.

Special team awards were presented to Dominic Emery, Raul Morales, Damian Acosta, Miguel Arreola, Giovanni Garcia, and Hernan Mojica. Mission Trail Athletic League first-team awards were given to Mays, Villasenor, and Flores. Mays was selected at the Golden Helmet Award winner, Villasenor was the Most Valuable Lineman, and Flores was chosen Offensive Player of the Year.
