SOUTH COUNTY — Wins over the Anzar Hawks last week helped the Gonzales baseball team improve to 5-6 in the Mission Trail Athletic League and 5-12 overall.
Gonzales had an easy time in the road game, winning by a 16-1 score and clinched the season series with a 5-3 home win on Friday.
In the lopsided road win Manny Vargas was 3 x 3 at the plate and hammered a double. Michael Duby contributed to the win with a double and single and Xando Mendez was 3 x 4 with a homerun and double. Giovanny Garcia earned the pitching victory in five innings of work.
In the home game on Friday Vargas and Dylan Gomez had RBI’s and Alex Morga earned the pitching win after relieving Isaiah Banuelos. The Spartans tied the game at 3-3 and won the game in the eighth inning.
