GONZALES — The Gonzales High School softball program ended the season with an awards night and banquet last Thursday at the school cafeteria.

Team members from the junior varsity and varsity softball teams and their families enjoyed a barbecue and pizza meal and an awards presentation.

Junior varsity softball coaches Janelle Basaldua and Justin Maturino introduced their players and handed out certificates of achievement and scholar-athlete certificates from Gonzales High and the Central Coast Section. Receiving special team awards for the JV team were: Vanessa Bravo (Most Valuable Player); Valeria Reyes (Coaches Award); Evelyn De La Torre (Most Improved); and Kailee Northrup (Spartan Award).

Varsity head coach Joey Basaldua then presented his team and gave out special team awards to the following players: Melissa Mendez (Most Valuable Player); Angelina Flores (Coaches Award); and Evelyn Salinas (Most Improved).

Mendez was chosen to the Mission Trail Athletic League second team.
