SOLEDAD — The suspect who was wanted for Wednesday’s shooting that injured a man in Soledad has turned himself in to police.

Xavier Diaz

Xavier Diaz, 25, walked into the Monterey County Jail and self-surrendered Thursday evening, announced Soledad Police Department.

“Thank you to all of those that called our Investigations Unit, used the WeTip line, and shared our post,” police said on social media that night. “A one million dollar arrest warrant was issued for Xavier Diaz earlier this morning.”

Local law enforcement agencies had been looking for Diaz since Wednesday, when a shooting was reported just after 10 a.m. in the 1300 block of Santa Clara in Soledad. There, Soledad officers found a male suffering from multiple gunshots.

The victim was transported to Natividad Medical Center, where he underwent several hours of surgery. He remains in critical condition, police said Thursday night.

Soledad and Greenfield police investigators worked on the case all day Wednesday and were able to positively identify the suspect as Diaz, who was considered armed and dangerous. Police posted a photo of Diaz on Facebook that evening, which was shared more than 200 times across the social media platform.

Diaz faces multiple weapons-related charges, and his bail has been set at $1 million.
