SOLEDAD — Soledad High School’s NJROTC program recently took 34 cadets to compete at the All Navy Drill Competition at Chaparral High School in Las Vegas, Nev., and came home with several awards.

Soledad was the only school invited from the Northern California region to compete against other NJROTC (Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps) programs from Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Wyoming, Oregon and Washington on Feb. 12.

Out of the nine schools competing, the Soledad NJROTC program finished in third place overall and won first place for unarmed exhibition, second places for armed exhibition and armed regulation and fourth place for physical fitness.

“Our NJROTC program competed against some of the best NJROTC programs in the nation,” said Capt. Pedro Gomez. “It was a great experience for our cadets as they got exposed to national level competition. I want to congratulate the cadets for their hard work, long hours of practices and their commitment to the NJROTC program.”
