SOLEDAD — Soledad Police Department has been busy this month spreading holiday cheer to local families in need this season.

First, Soledad officers and police explorers, as well as their own Santa Joe, helped with the Holiday Resource Fair for special needs families on Dec. 3, hosted by Special Kids Connect and Soledad Unified School District.

More than 25 agencies attended the fair that included resources for parents and activities for children of all ages at Soledad High School.

Then, on Dec. 9, SPD hosted the annual Cops Giving Tree in partnership with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, Soledad ROTC, Cal Fire, City of Soledad and other sponsors.

Local officials, including Soledad Mayor Anna Velazquez and Monterey County Supervisor Chris Lopez, attended the community event, which featured a visit from Santa along with a free dinner and gifts for children.

“It was amazing to see the joy and anticipation as this yearly event returned to spread holiday cheer,” Lopez said. “I was happy to be able to attend and share and enjoy the magic of the season.”
