SOLEDAD — City of Soledad and Mayor Anna Velazquez are celebrating Women’s History Month with a brief webinar taking place via Zoom on Wednesday night.

Guest speakers for the March 30 event, from 6 to 7 p.m., include Gretta Steinbruner, officer with the Soledad Police Department; Carissa Purnell, executive director of Alisal Resource Center; Ida Lopez Chan, CEO of Soledad Health Care District; Zandra Jo Galvan, superintendent of Greenfield Union School District; and Isabel Meza, with the Office of Assemblymember Robert Rivas.

“As part of Women’s History Month, it’s important to celebrate and acknowledge the numerous contributions made by women in many critical sectors of our community, such as healthcare, education, public safety, government and much more,” Velazquez said. “It’s also an opportunity to remember the passage of the 19th amendment that guaranteed women the right to vote and reaffirm our commitment toward fair and equitable policies and structures that support and uplift women.”

The women speakers will be asked a series of questions, during which they will share their story with the Soledad community. As panelists, they will discuss their challenges and successes, as well as offer words of wisdom and encouragement to future and current young women leaders.

The theme for the 2022 Women’s History Month webinar is “Gender Equality Today for a Sustainable Tomorrow,” as women continue to fight for gender equality. Mayor Velazquez and Youth Council Member Sofia Vargas will be the moderators.

“These South County women leaders stand united to build communities that are more equitable and inclusive,” according to the City in a news release Friday.

The webinar will be streamed live on the City of Soledad Facebook page, and will be available to view online afterward.
