GONZALES — Superintendent Liz Modena has been let go by the Gonzales Unified School District Board members during a special meeting April 11.

Over the past two months, the school board has been challenged by the community on its decision to let several teachers go at the end of the school year. Parents disagreed with the decision and attended board meetings to speak about the teachers in question and show their support.

Many of the community signs held during board meetings called for Modena to no longer be part of the district.

Most recently Modena was not present during the March 26 meeting, when she was scheduled to present the process for filling the school board vacancy that was left when Elizabeth Funk resigned from the position.
