COVID-19 TESTS
KING CITY — A pop-up Covid-19 testing site will take place outside the King City Recreation Department on Thursday, July 9, starting at 10 a.m. The testing site is the result of a partnership between Mee Memorial Hospital and Natividad Medical Center. Testing is free and limited to the first 100 participants. Those showing up to the drive-thru site are asked to enter from Division Street to San Lorenzo Avenue between the Salinas Valley Fairgrounds and City Park, then to follow Golf Course Drive to the site. Participants do not need to have symptoms to be tested, and no identification or insurance card is required.
GREAT PLATES FILLED
SALINAS VALLEY — Monterey County’s Great Plates Delivered Program has reached capacity, now serving 200 seniors at high risk of catching Covid-19. The delivery service is planned to run through July 10, unless extended, which can happen every 30 days if the state gets approval after making a request to FEMA. Applications for Great Plates are no longer being accepted at this time. Meal deliveries for senior in the program include breakfast, lunch and dinner from six restaurants located around the county, with Linda’s Taqueria in Gonzales and The Cork & Plough in King City being among them. A total of 23 seniors are being served in South County.
WILDERNESS FIRE RISK
SOLEDAD — Pinnacles National Park announced a ban on charcoal grills and campfires in effect starting July 1, due to elevated fire risk in the park. Smoking on trails is also prohibited. The current fire danger is listed as “very high” and has resulted in the fire-risk prohibitions. Current park hours are 7:30 a.m. through 8 p.m. on the west side, with the east side closed past the campground. All fees are waived and entry is free, but the visitor’s center, shuttle services and cave trails are all closed and not operational.
