GREENFIELD — Greenfield Union School District has announced the appointment of Laura Cortez as the new superintendent. With eight years of dedicated service to the district, including most recently as interim superintendent, Cortez brings a passionate vision focused on student success and district growth. “Her leadership is rooted in passion, her actions guided by integrity, and her goal is very much clear: to elevate academic excellence, ensure our schools continue to grow stronger, and to empower our scholars, families & our educators,” stated the district. “We couldn’t be more excited for what’s ahead under Superintendent Laura Cortez’s leadership!”

SALINAS — After more than 30 years as a teacher, athletic director and head basketball coach at Alisal High School, Jose Gil is launching a new mission: helping individuals and families take control of their financial futures. Gil will celebrate the grand opening of Ganas Financial with a virtual event on Thursday, July 24, at 7 p.m. Rooted in Gil’s lifelong commitment to service and community, Ganas Financial offers personalized financial strategy and literacy coaching aimed at simplifying complex financial topics and building long-term stability. The word ganas, meaning “drive” or “motivation” in Spanish, reflects Gil’s mission to inspire action and empowerment through education and support. The virtual grand opening will include a special guest appearance by Guillermo Haro, a respected business coach and motivational speaker. KING CITY — Monterey County Supervisor Chris Lopez invites the community to celebrate the grand opening and ribbon cutting of the new Third District Office in King City on Thursday, July 31. The event begins with doors opening at 5:30 p.m., followed by the program starting at 6 p.m. at 1011 Broadway St., Suite C. Attendees will enjoy a ribbon cutting ceremony, along with the announcement of winners from the “We Are Southern Monterey County” painting and photography competition.
