BROADBAND SURVEY

MONTEREY COUNTY — Monterey County is seeking information to determine the broadband needs of its residents and businesses through a brief survey. The County of Monterey Broadband Speed Campaign is an initiative for all residents to self-report their internet speed at home, work or wherever they are connected to the internet. The data collected will be mapped and used to invest in resources to improve broadband access across the county. The survey can be taken online via the link tinyurl.com/MCBroadbandSurvey.


SIDEWALK REPAIRS

SOLEDAD — City of Soledad has announced its Sidewalk Repair Program, in which the city will fund up to 50% or $2,000 (whichever is less) of an eligible sidewalk repair or replacement project. Only sidewalks that have been determined hazardous and requiring repair or replacement are eligible. KING CITY — Sol Treasures is seeking additional volunteers to help out at the nonprofit arts center in King City. Volunteers can learn work skills, gain work experience for their resumes, complete community hours or add to their scholarships or college applications. BONUS BRIEF: COLLEGE BOARD

SALINAS — At its annual organizational meeting on Dec. 13, the Hartnell Community College District Governing Board elected its officers and designated its meeting dates for the calendar year 2023. Aurelio Salazar Jr., Area 2 representative, was elected HCCD’s 2023 Board President, replacing outgoing President Erica Padilla-Chavez, Area 6 representative. Along with Salazar Jr. and Padilla-Chavez, other board members are: Board Vice President Alejandra González, Area 1; Margaret D’Arrigo, Area 3; Irma Lopez, Area 4; Ray Montemayor, Area 5; and Candi DePauw, Area 7. Superintendent/President Michael Gutierrez is Board Secretary. The Board’s meeting dates, times and locations for this year are posted on the Hartnell website.
