OUTSTANDING VOLUNTEERS
MONTEREY COUNTY — United Way Monterey County is currently accepting nominations for its LIVE UNITED Awards. The 45th annual community service awards honor volunteers who made significant contributions in Monterey County during the calendar year 2020. Organizations and individuals can nominate either an individual or a team until Friday, Feb. 26, through the UWMC website. Each nominee will be individually recognized at the virtual awards reception on April 28.
PEST MANAGEMENT
MONTEREY COUNTY — Humane Wildlife Control Inc., based in Monterey County, has received an award from the California Department of Pesticide Regulation for its leadership in reducing pesticide use via Integrated Pest Management. The company uses live-trapping, one-way exits and biological control to remove and exclude rodents, rather than using rodenticides for structural rodent and wildlife management. According to the co-founder, the company’s non-chemical methods are effective long-term and prevent re-infestation.
COMMUNITY SURVEY
MONTEREY COUNTY — Monterey County Community Action Partnership has launched its 2022-23 Community Needs Assessment process. MCCAP’s mission is to assess the needs of low-income residents and develop, maintain and evaluate community services that empower these individuals and families to improve their quality of life. The survey helps the county prioritize services and allocate funding based on community needs.
