FFA WEEK
KING CITY — National FFA Week runs from Feb. 21 through 24, and King City FFA has planned fun activities for students and the community. These include Donkey Basketball on Wednesday, Feb. 22, at 6 p.m. at the King City High School gym, and the annual tri-tip barbecue after school on Thursday, Feb. 23. The basketball game will include three matches featuring Teachers vs. Students, Young Farmers vs. King City Fire Department and King City Officers vs. Soledad Officers. Admission costs $5 at the door.
AIRBORNE SURVEYS
SALINAS VALLEY — Additional SkyTEM airborne geophysical surveys will occur over the Salinas Valley on Wednesday and Thursday, Feb. 22-23. A low-flying helicopter will be towing an instrument loop to collect additional data for the Deep Aquifer Study. The helicopter will fly over the following areas: around Soledad and Salinas areas; Old Stage Road and the Sierra de Salinas; and Fort Ord National Monument area and along Highway 68. Survey data helps improve understanding of groundwater resources and support the implementation of the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act. The Deep Aquifers are a critical groundwater resource for drinking water and agricultural irrigation in the Salinas Valley. Additional study of them is needed to halt seawater intrusion and effectively manage groundwater sustainability. Salinas Valley Collaborative Funding Partners funded the Deep Aquifers Study, which will be completed by the end of 2023.
