WATER RESTRICTIONS

SOLEDAD — In an effort to conserve and reduce water throughout the state, the City of Soledad has implemented temporary water restrictions for residents. Due to the ongoing drought, new rules have been passed by the Governor’s State Water Resources Control Board, including restrictions for outdoor irrigation of landscapes or turf with potable water to a maximum of two days per week, and no watering during the hours of 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Addresses that end with an “even” number (0, 2, 4, 6 or 8) can water on Mondays and Thursdays, while addresses that end with an “odd” number (1, 3, 5, 7 or 9) can water on Tuesdays and Fridays. Other regulations include: fines can initiate up to $500 a day; repair of any leaking fixtures; and reduction of water use by 20%.

AWARENESS WALK

SOLEDAD — Monterey County WIC Nutrition Program is hosting its Second Annual Breastfeeding Awareness Walk on Thursday, Aug. 4, in Soledad. As part of the celebration, WIC has invited local health agencies to provide free services, information, health screenings, cooking tips and children’s activities to the public. The free event takes place from 4 to 6 p.m., with the walk starting at 5 p.m., at Vosti Park, corner of Monterey and Park streets, in Soledad. Monterey County WIC has also launched the website 831breastfeeds.com, a new resource with breastfeeding information for parents and providers.

BUS TRIP

GREENFIELD — With the school year about to begin, Greenfield City Councilmember Yanely Martinez is inviting local youth to learn how to use Monterey-Salinas Transit, the bus service operating in Monterey County. Martinez will meet up with attendees on Friday, Aug. 5, at 10 a.m. at the bus stop by Town Burger, 16 El Camino Real, to learn about the routes and fees as they take Bus 23 from Greenfield to Salinas. RSVP is required due to limited space. For more information or to sign up, email [email protected].
