Salinas Valley Fair to host online livestock auction Saturday

KING CITY — Salinas Valley Fair will host a virtual livestock auction this Saturday, June 20.

This year’s auction is a charitable auction, with no meat product exchanging hands. Proceeds will instead be directed to 4-H and FFA exhibitors who participate in the auction. Some of this year’s exhibitors chose to sell their animals through private auctions beforehand.

The fairgrounds announced its goal is for all 614 exhibitors to find a buyer for their animals at the estimated average to cover the minimum of raising the animals. This would be $780 for market lambs, $730 for market goats, $855 for market hogs, $4,500 for market steers and $4,000 for replacement heifers.

There is also a Cooperative Add-On Fund, in which money collected will be redistributed to all 4-H and FFA exhibitors who have entered the online auction. The fairgrounds has asked past supporters, donors and sponsors to consider contributing to this fund, as well.

The overall goal is to raise $350,000 into the fund to ensure every exhibitor in this year’s auction will get at least $570 added to their online auction sales.

For more information, the fairgrounds can be contacted at [email protected] or 831-385-3243, or visit salinasvalleyfair.com.
