GONZALES — Over the next week the Gonzales Police Department will be hosting two events, including a Drug Take Back Day on Saturday and a Haunted Police Department event on Halloween.

This Saturday, Oct. 28, is National Prescription Drug Take Back Day and Gonzales police will be having a drop off prescription drug location at the station from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The goal of the event is to eliminate prescription drug abuse by turning in expired or unused prescription drugs with no questions asked. The department is asking that residents refrain from bringing illegal substances and needles to the event. Officers are hosting the event in partnership with Sun Street Centers.

Gonzales Police Department will get a makeover Oct. 31 and be turned into a Haunted Police Department for youth to stop by and trick or treat if they dare. The haunted house will be from 5 to 9 p.m. and is sponsored by the Gonzales Police Officers Association.
