GONZALES — The City of Gonzales was rocking on the Fourth of July with road racing, a parade and music.
At 8 a.m. runners and walkers hit the streets for the Gonzales RX Pharmacy Fifth Annual Orange and Black 5K. Over 60 participants took part in the event that benefits Gonzales High School students in the way of scholarships.
The runners and walkers completed the race on Fifth Street with the aroma of the famous Gonzales Rotary ribs filling the air.
At noon the annual parade featured youth organizations, including the Gonzales 4-H Club and Little League, the Gonzales High School band, and various tractors, bikes, trucks and a slew of horses.
After the parade hundreds of Gonzales residents and visitors gathered at Central Park to listen to music by the Gonza Boys, Sam’z School of Music and Silver Train.
Participants enjoyed hot food and cool drinks while strolling through the park, and the little ones took their tumbles in the jump house area that was supervised by the Gonzales High football team.
