New-news: The King City Police Department is taking a survey and asking for public opinions, and I hope it includes our high school. We have accomplished more than I thought possible with a new police department. Once the King City Police Department became news on CNN. Once we talked of the sheriff department protecting us. Now, proud to protect and honor to serve us has started with new officers and recently a new sergeant who is here and will help to solve crimes. Sgt. Steven Kennedy was sworn in April 17. The sooner these crimes are solved, it should help feeling safe living in King City.

News-old: After my story on Mustang Legacy, I had hoped students would start attending city council meetings. The cannabis industry is an interesting topic and maybe a cash cow as I have seen reported. Since we have passed an ordinance allowing for sale, there is now application for permits. Listen and learn the decisions council has to make, as there is now a debate on how best to begin managing marijuana. Whether medical or recreational, the subject will involve those living here. How will this affect our town? Will taxes make it worth it? Let’s let young people know that now is the time to listen, to come and perhaps offer their suggestions to council.

News-old: The article about the Relay for Life honorees — they all look so much alike, the fact they are sisters seemed obvious. I’m refering to Yolanda Maldonado, who helped manage cancer a second time with the match of some of her sister’s stem cells. Looking at this survivor, and her will to fight, and to hear her story how she beat cancer is why she is a Relay for Life example.
