GONZALES — A nice crowd gathered on Saturday afternoon for the official ribbon cutting of the newly revamped Gonzales Skate Park at 203 First St.
A fast-approaching rain put the ceremony into hyper speed for the Gonzales city officials and residents who attended the Feb. 11 event. Local youth crashed through the ribbon with their scooters to mark the park’s opening.
“We are pleased that the skate park project is complete and is ready to use,” said Gonzales Public Works Director and City Engineer Patrick Dobbins. “This was the second phase of the project with the total cost of $215,000. We received help from the State of California with $160,000 from Prop. 68 funding.”
The skate park features a large bowl where skaters and BMX bikers can perfect their skills, along with new ramps and improvements to existing ramps.
Gonzales Skate Park is open daily until after sunset.
