Monterey County lifts indoor mask requirement for employees, visitors of county facilities

MONTEREY COUNTY — Monterey County will lift its indoor mask requirement Monday for all county facilities except those that are covered by ongoing state mandates like jails and health care facilities.

The county said in a statement that it will lift mask requirements and health screenings at its facilities for both employees and members of the public.

While Covid-19 cases and hospitalizations have fallen low enough for the county to lift its mask requirements, county officials said masks are still strongly recommended indoors and in crowded areas.

Masks are still required regardless of vaccination status under state and federal guidelines in health care facilities, homeless shelters, jails and prisons, long-term care facilities and on public transit.
