MONTEREY COUNTY — Monterey County Health Department announced Tuesday that it would move into the Yellow Tier of the State of California’s Blueprint for a Safer Economy this week after meeting the requirements.
Beginning Wednesday, June 2, all activities authorized under the state’s Yellow Tier can resume in accordance with state capacity limits and safety protocols.
Advancing into the Yellow Tier allows the county’s restaurants, movie theaters, libraries, churches, family entertainment centers, gyms and fitness studios to expand capacity indoors.
In the Yellow Tier, indoor bars, breweries and wineries can open at 25% capacity, up to 100 people. Outdoor conventions, meetings and receptions can resume with up to 200 people, and up to 400 people if all attendees provide proof of vaccination or a negative coronavirus test.
County health officials provided the following core principles to help keep the community safe:
- Move activities outdoors. Outdoor activities pose less risk than indoor activities.
- Stay masked. Consistent use of face coverings indoors is very effective at preventing spread of the coronavirus.
- Maintain distance from others. Social distancing from those who do not live with you is effective at keeping the coronavirus away.
- Avoid crowds. The fewer people you encounter and the fewer interactions you have, the lower the chance the virus will spread.
- Get vaccinated and encourage others to get vaccinated. All federally authorized vaccines work well and will help keep you, your family, and your friends healthy.
