Mee Memorial doctor introduces healthful books to youth

SALINAS VALLEY — Mee Memorial Healthcare System Dr. Joshua Deutsch hosted a book reading for local youth in Greenfield on Oct. 7, kicking off a series of celebrations prior to National Rural Health Day in November.

Deutsch, a family physician in King City and Greenfield, has authored 10 children’s books created for free distribution in farm-working communities.

The books, which are available for download from, address health-related themes, such as nutrition, physical activity and diabetes, and also feature characters of indigenous and Latin American descent.

Mee Memorial has planned other activities, including a student poster contest, leading up to Rural Health Day on Thursday, Nov. 18.
