To the Editor:

As we enter the fall season, I would like to remind our community of the importance of protecting yourself, your loved ones and your neighbors by getting a flu shot.

At Mee Memorial Healthcare System, our mission has always been to keep our community healthy and safe. The influenza virus may seem routine, but every year it leads to illness and hospitalizations. The best defense is prevention, and the flu vaccine is a safe, simple and effective way to reduce the risk.

Getting vaccinated not only helps you, but also protects vulnerable members of our community — seniors, young children, pregnant women and those with chronic health conditions. It is one small step that makes a big difference in keeping our community thriving.

Free flu shots are available in October and early November at the following times and locations:

  • Oct. 11, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., 809 Broadway St., King City;
  • Oct. 15, 2:30 to 4 p.m., Soledad Community Center, 560 Walker Drive, Soledad;
  • Oct. 18, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Albert and Donna Oliveira Clinic, 467 El Camino Real, Greenfield;
  • Oct. 23, 2 to 4 p.m., City Hall, 212 S. Vanderhurst Ave., King City;
  • Oct. 27, 4 to 7 p.m., San Ardo School, 62428 Center St., San Ardo;
  • Oct. 28, 4 to 6 p.m., San Lucas School, 53675 San Benito St., San Lucas; and
  • Nov. 6, 2 to 4 p.m., City Hall, 599 El Camino Real, Greenfield.

Please make time for this essential part of your fall routine. Together, we can lessen the impact of flu season and continue to look out for one another.

Thank you for doing your part to keep our community healthy.

Rena Salamacha
CEO, Mee Memorial Healthcare System
