BAY AREA — High temperatures and hazy skies are in the forecast for much of the Bay Area on Friday, prompting advisories for both heat and air quality.

Warmer temperatures that began Thursday are expected to persist through next week for the region, according to the National Weather Service.

The heat advisory on Friday is for interior parts of the North Bay, East Bay, and South Bay, as well as interior areas of Monterey and San Benito counties.

For the affected areas, daytime temperatures will be in the upper 90s and lower 100s. Far inland locations may reach 110 degrees, according to the weather service.

An air quality advisory was also issued for Friday, when smoke from wildfires burning across Northern California is expected to linger across the region.

Hazy skies and the smell of smoke is possible in portions of the Bay Area, especially at higher altitudes and in the North Bay, according the Bay Area Air Quality Management District.

Conditions can change rapidly and the amount and location of smoke at ground level is hard to predict. The public can check for real-time smoke pollution levels in their local area at fire.airnow.gov.

Wildfire smoke contains fine particulate matter and other harmful pollutants, and exposure is unhealthy, even for short periods of time, the air district said.

If possible and if temperatures allow, people should stay inside with windows closed on Friday and should keep doors closed until smoke levels subside.

The air district said it will closely monitor air quality throughout the region for smoke impacts. Pollutant levels are not expected to exceed the national 24-hour health standard and therefore, no Spare the Air Alert is in effect.
