GONZALES — The Gonzales High School girls tennis team completed the non-league schedule last week with matches against the York School Falcons and the Everett Alvarez Eagles. The Spartans battled York in a 5-2 loss, winning two doubles matches and falling in the singles matches.
Against Everett Alvarez, Gonzales was shutout by a 7-0 score although the Spartans score points in the singles and doubles matches. Gonzales head coach Rene Mendez was pleased with the efforts of his team in both contests.

Elizabeth is a sophomore and played her first singles match. Isabel did well in her first singles match and Bianca hung in there for the entire time. In doubles it was a great win for Adileene and Valeria. They got better as the match wore on and took control of the match in the second set. Very young team with many of the girls playing for the first time. Overall they played well and hustled.”
