As we celebrate National Nonprofit Day, it’s a fitting time to reflect on the organizations driving positive change in our communities.

The Arts Council for Monterey County (Arts4MC) is an independent nonprofit organization. While we are grateful for support from the County of Monterey and the California Arts Council, public funding covers only a portion of our work. The rest depends on the generosity of individuals, businesses, foundations and community partners.

We see the impact of this support every day: children discovering confidence in the classroom, veterans finding healing and artists launching small businesses. The arts are also a powerful economic engine, generating over $1.5 billion annually in Monterey County and supporting thousands of jobs.

Recently, Arts4MC has expanded arts education, grown our Arts4Healing programs and revitalized events like the Open Studios Art Tour. Yet our ambitious vision — much like the essential goals of the broader nonprofit sector — cannot be funded by government alone.

Nonprofits exist to bridge gaps and uplift communities, and the arts are a vital investment in our region’s education, health and economic vitality. This National Nonprofit Day, whether you attend a performance, volunteer or become a donor, you are shaping Monterey County’s future.

Together, we can ensure the arts continue to enrich our community for generations to come.
