GREENFIELD — Greenfield Police Department has announced the addition of two advanced drones to its public safety arsenal, a move officials say will dramatically improve response times and enhance situational awareness during emergencies.
“We’re happy to share that we’ve added two state-of-the-art DJI drones to our public safety tools,” stated the department on May 26. “These new drones are helping us serve and protect our community even better.”
One of the drones will be stationed on the roof of the police department, ready to auto-deploy and provide real-time video footage to officers within minutes of a 911 call. This capability, officials say, will allow responders to “assess situations faster and make informed decisions.”
The second drone will be mobile, carried by a trained drone operator in a patrol vehicle. This setup allows for on-the-spot deployment anywhere in the field, offering officers greater flexibility and up-to-the-minute information as events unfold.
Both drones are equipped with advanced features, including video recording, live streaming, infrared sensors and heat signature detection. These tools are designed to improve safety for officers and the public, particularly during complex or high-risk incidents.
“Drones are an exciting part of modern policing,” the department noted. “Helping us respond more quickly, improve safety during emergencies, and better serve our community.”
Greenfield Police thanked the public for its continued support as it embraces new technologies to enhance community safety.
