GREENFIELD — Greenfield police arrested a local man last month in connection with multiple residential burglaries and a sexual battery.
On March 27, officers took 21-year-old Omar Onofre Garcia of Greenfield into custody after identifying him as the suspect in four home burglaries that occurred between March 6 and March 27. In one incident, Garcia also committed a sexual battery against an adult male.
According to the Greenfield Police Department, Garcia gained entry to the homes through unlocked doors and windows and stole property. With help from a community member, officers located Garcia and served a warrant at his residence.
Garcia was booked into the Monterey County Jail on four counts of burglary and one count of sexual battery. Most of the stolen property has been recovered.
Police said there is no ongoing threat to the community but reminded residents to take precautions to protect their homes, including locking doors and windows, staying aware of surroundings and reporting suspicious activity.
“Your partnership helps keep Greenfield safe,” the department said, thanking the community member who provided information that led to Garcia’s arrest.
Residents can report suspicious activity to the Greenfield Police Department at 831-385-8311 for non-emergencies or 911 for emergencies.
