SOUTH COUNTY — Alize Ortiz scored 16 points and Maria Hernandez scored 14 points as the Greenfield Lady Bruins defeated Gonzales High 46-38 on Thursday in the Roger Fernando Gym. Alexis De La Rosa led Gonzales with 10 points and four assists and just two turnovers in 32 minutes of play.

Greenfield began the week with a 49-42 loss at home to the Pacific Grove Breakers. Hernandez scored 16 points against the Breakers and Ortiz was right behind her in scoring with 15 points.

The Bruins are 7-6 overall and 1-2 in in the Mission Trail Athletic League and will play the Santa Catalina Cougars tonight at home and host the Robert Louis Stevenson Pirates on Friday night.

Gonzales High improve to 1-2 in the MTAL after beating Santa Catalina on Thursday, 39-19.

The score of the game was 14-13 in favor of the Cougars at halftime but the Spartans secured the win with a 12-0 run in the third quarter.

Denise Robles led Gonzales with 10 points.

Kayla Dixon contributed with eight points and Sofia Prieto added six points for the Spartans.

Gonzales will play the Lady Mustangs of King City tonight in King City and will host the Carmel Padres on Friday night.
