GREENFIELD — Transportation Agency for Monterey County (TAMC), in partnership with the City of Greenfield, announced that Greenfield residents and workers, age 14 and older, will have the opportunity to vote to determine which Safe Routes to School projects to fund in their city.
Voters can cast their votes from Dec. 1 to 15 by selecting from a list of projects developed by the Greenfield Safe Routes to School Steering Committee designed to make it safer for youth and families to get to and from school.
The Steering Committee, made up of residents, students and community advocates, was formed in June and worked with the Safe Routes to School program partners and the City of Greenfield to develop a list of projects for the community to vote on.
Through this participatory budgeting election process, residents will help determine how to spend $250,000 allocated for program safety improvements.
The election will kick off with a Town Hall meeting on Thursday, Dec. 1, from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Greenfield Council Chambers, 599 El Camino Real, where community members can learn about the project, ask questions and cast their votes on-site.
In addition, votes can also be cast online at the Greenfield Participatory Budgeting Election webpage bit.ly/GreenfieldPB, or community members can take a ballot and drop it off at one of the following ballot drop-off sites in Greenfield:
- Greenfield City Hall, 599 El Camino Real, Monday–Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Greenfield Union School District, Monday–Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Cesar Chavez Elementary School, Monday–Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Greenfield Community Center, Monday–Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Arroyo Seco Academy, Monday–Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Greenfield High School, Monday–Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Greenfield Branch Library, Tuesday–Wednesday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Thursday–Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Oak Avenue Elementary School, Monday–Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Vista Verde Middle School, Monday–Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Mary Chapa Academy, Monday–Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Holy Trinity Church, Monday–Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The winning projects will be announced in February 2023, and recommended for implementation to the Greenfield City Council when the Salinas Valley Safe Routes to School Plan is adopted in spring 2024.
