GONZALES — Gonzales Unified School District Governing Board has unanimously appointed Marvin Biasotti as interim superintendent of the district.

The Board met March 16 for a special meeting to discuss the leadership position, following its termination of former Superintendent Yvette Irving the week before.

On March 8, board members voted 3-2 to terminate Irving’s employment agreement without cause. Irving had been superintendent since July 2018.

In a news release Thursday, the district said Biasotti “brings a wealth of experience and expertise to this role.”

Biasotti, who has been in public education for more than 40 years, was most recently the superintendent of Carmel Unified School District for 15 years. His appointment is contingent upon finalizing an employment agreement, which will be considered by the Board at a regular meeting in open session.

“Mr. Biasotti is an experienced school district leader and we are thrilled to welcome him aboard in Gonzales,” said Board President Celeste Daniel. “We look forward to his tenure as interim. We plan to discuss the search for a new long-term superintendent during open session on Tuesday, March 22.”

The release concluded, “The Board thanks Mr. Biasotti for his willingness to assist us during this period of transition.”
