GONZALES — Fairview Middle School sixth-grader Izzie Pacheco of Gonzales won the California USA Wrestling Championship in the 12-and-under, 140-pound weight class.

Pacheco went undefeated this season at local tournaments, taking the Santa Clara Valley Regional title earlier this year.

The 11-year-old Pacheco, daughter of Erin Askew and Esgar Pacheco, is the first to bring home a state title for the Salinas Valley Wrestling Club. Pacheco travels and trains with Coach Eddie Escovedo and also trains weekly with Coach Kelly at G Style Wrestling.

Pacheco will be competing for the second straight year for Fairview Middle School in Gonzales.

Pacheco is also mentored by Samantha Calkins, a former Fargo Champion and Iowa Hawkeye women’s wrestler.
