GONZALES — Gonzales residents lined up for baked potatoes as the Gonzales Community Church hosted its 15th annual Baked Potato Luncheon last Thursday.

Lunches were purchased by residents and businesses for employees to enjoy in the Church Hall or back at work. About 200 potatoes were sold during the fundraiser.

“It’s a pretty healthy food and there’s a variety of things you can put on it,” said Pastor Steve Knowles said. “You can create your meal with potato.”

The meal came with a salad, drink and cupcake. According to Knowles, local businesses purchased about 20 to 30 tickets and accounted for the majority of the takeout lunches.

“It’s a win-win situation,” Knowles said. “It’s a fundraiser for the church and its ministries and it’s a great way to meet people. I’m outside just meeting people in the community that I don’t usually see or get a chance to meet.”
