GONZALES — October is National Bullying Prevention Month and Gonzales Unified School District is working on anti-bullying activities for students to participate in throughout the month.
Bullying prevention is year-long work, according to Superintendent Liz Modena, and the Monterey County Office of Education has stepped up to make it county-wide and in every school district in Monterey County.
“The county superintendent came up with the idea of a flash mob,” Modena said. “It could be just a group of people gathering and singing. It could be a group of people gathering and dancing.”
Another suggestion that Modena had was for students to get together to make the shape of a heart.
“There are activities in the works,” said Candice MacFarlane, director of college and career readiness. “Fairview was looking at combining something and ant bullying.”
Some of the suggestions the Monterey County Office of Education came up with were a video for schools to show school activities or 10 ways to be an “upstander.”
Modena said the school district has also reached out to the Gonzales Youth Council to see what activities they would be interested in doing.
