Four Cities For Peace Block Party draws crowd to Gonzales

GONZALES — Hundreds of South County residents spent time away at Central Park in Gonzales to enjoy the festivities last Saturday at the sixth annual Four Cities For Peace Block Party.

According to event organizer Jean Salcido, the “Taste of Aloha” Hawaiian-themed event provided a positive outlet for the South County community.

“Everyone enjoyed all of the activities,” Salcido said. “There was plenty of free food, free toys, free cotton candy, free popcorn and pinatas. The senior citizens were treated like VIPs under their own Adventure Seeking Seniors’ tent.”

Performing at the park were Peter and Vanessa Garellick from Oakland, Blanca Cruz from Watsonville, a Praise Dancer, Community of Life Apostolic Church Praise Singers, Barbara Ann Wagner from Gonzales and Major Debra Wagner from the Salvation Army.

Resource groups included Alliance on Aging, Bound for Life, First Tee, VNA South County, Alzheimer’s Organization, Victory Outreach Church Soledad, El Shaddai Church Greenfield, Encounter Church Salinas, Westside Church Salinas and the Beyond Awesome Prayer Group.

“I am so thankful to the City of Gonzales for the Measure K Grant that helped fund our event,” Salcido said. “I also want to thank all our volunteers, especially my husband Juaquin who is very supportive in all I do for the community of Gonzales.”

The second annual Cornhole Tournament, coordinated by Rene Ganaden, also took place at the Block Party.

This year’s winners were Norman Matthews and Jesse Gallegos. Gift certificates were awarded to the top three teams.
