GONZALES — The Hollister Haybaler JV football team broke open a one-point game to defeat the Gonzales Spartababes 28-19 on Friday at Dick Force Stadium. Hollister led Gonzales 14-13 at halftime.

“This was our worst practice week we have had all year coming off our win over Soledad,” said Gonzales head JV coach Ruben Alvarado. “Not taking anything away from Hollister as they came ready to play. We started out fast scoring on our first drive. Hollister stayed with their game plan and held the ball for the majority of the game. We just needed the ball more.”

Gonzales quarterback Jose Leon scored all three touchdown for the Spartababes who finished the game playing under the lighting system at Dick Force Stadium that brightened up the playing field.

Gonzales fell to 3-1 and will open league against the Soquel Knights at 5 p.m. on Friday afternoon.
