CHUALAR — Monterey County fire crews rushed to contain a fire that broke out early Christmas morning at an auto repair shop in Chualar.

Multiple structures were threatened by the blaze on Grant Street around 4 a.m., and five fire engines responded, according to the Monterey County Regional Fire Department. No injuries were reported, but residents on Washington Street, between Jackson and Scott streets, were ordered to evacuate.

The fire damaged the auto shop and another building nearby, as well as affected power lines near the scene.

Multiple agencies assisted, including those from Salinas, Gonzales, Soledad, CTF, North County, Presidio of Monterey, CHP, SO, PG&E and AMR. The fire was under control at about 6:24 a.m. and was fully extinguished a few hours later.

The cause of the Dec. 25 fire is not yet known.
