GONZALES — Monterey County Public Works is alerting commuters of a full closure of River Road at Fairview Road near Gonzales beginning Tuesday, Aug. 2.

The closure, lasting through the month of August, is necessary so that crews can make repairs to the culvert underneath the roadway. A detour route is available around the construction site.

Travelers will be directed to take Highway 101 south to Arroyo Seco via Fort Romie Road to River Road. Those heading north will be directed to take Highway 101 north to Gonzales exit 310 to Alta Street via Gonzales River Road to River Road.

Motorists should expect additional travel time of up to 20 minutes. Message and directional signs will be in place to alert travelers.

“Please allow extra time for your commute through the area,” Public Works said in a news release.
