Elvezio “Saw” Breschini, 97, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2017. He was born in Gonzales where he spent the majority of his life. He moved to Salinas in 1998 to be near his family.
He attended Gonzales schools. He spent over 50 years as a part of the farming community in the Salinas Valley. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, sports, rodeos, but most of all, spending time with his family and friends.
He served in the U.S. Army as a Staff Sergeant in the Anti-Aircraft Artillery Gun Battalion during World War II (1941-1945). He was stationed throughout Europe during World War II and fought in the Battle of the Bulge.
Saw was a member of the Monterey County Swiss Rifle Club, Swiss American Club and St. Theodore’s Catholic Church.
Preceded in death by wife of 70 years, Angelina Breschini. Parents, Bernardino and Oliva Breschini; Brothers, Oliver Breschini, Elmer (Piash) Breschini, and Albert (Moko) Breschini; Sisters, Rosaline Headley and Ruth (Cookie) Rivera.
He is survived 3 children, Les (Rochelle) Breschini of Salinas, Linda Stockwell of Clovis and Alice (Mike) Hitchcock of Salinas. 6 grandchildren: Shane Breschini, Ann Marie (Zach) Punnett, Tara (Michael Flynn) Stockwell, Brianne Stockwell, Jason Hitchcock, Kate Hitchcock, 7 great-grandchildren, Tyler Stockwell, Dailyn Breschini, Olivia Rose Punnett, Hailey Ray Flynn, Noah William Punnett, Brenin James Flynn, Henry Wayne Punnett. Brother, Wes Breschini of Fresno, Sister Jane Pisoni of Gonzales. Numerous nephews and nieces.
The family gratefully acknowledges the loving care of his devoted caregivers, Kikue and Juana. They send a special thank you to Dr. Yoneda for his many years of compassionate care.
Visitation will be held Thursday, March 9, 2017, from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Struve and Laporte Chapel, 41 W. San Luis Street, Salinas, CA 93901
Graveside service will be held Friday, March 10, 2017 at 11:00 am at Gonzales District Cemetery, 1000 US 101, Gonzales, CA 93926
