GONZALES — The visiting Everett Alvarez High Eagles defeated the Gonzales High Spartans — 25-16, 25-10 and 25-14 — in the non-league opener for both teams last Thursday in the Roger Fernando Gym in Gonzales.

“Great week for GHS volleyball,” said Spartan head coach Desiree Baltazar. “From the Sportsmanship match to the first home match. We are still working on finding our rhythm but looking promising.”

The Spartan junior varsity lost in two games to the Eagles. Former Gonzales player Margarita Perez is the JV head coach for Gonzales.

Gonzales will host the Marina Mariners today and will travel to King City on Tuesday, Sept. 4.
